Highlights
The Composite Façade of Stadskantoor Utrecht (SKU)
The SKU is the biggest composite project ever within Benelux totalizing about 20,000 m2 of composite panels produced using a vacuum infusion method.
For this project, a new range of fire retardant resins and gelcoats were developed in order to obtain the B S2 D0 approval according to the 13501-1 norm.
Another important challenge was the continuous adjustment of the delivery schedule of all raw materials to the speed of production. This challenge was increased by the limited storage capacity at our customers due to safety regulations, 3 production locations, holiday periods and the continuous change in production speed.
Thanks to the successful collaboration with our suppliers and logistic partners, MCtechnics managed to fulfill its customers’ demanding requests.
In this project, the following issues were of high importance :
- Choice of raw materials
- Selection and development of the production system
- Just-in-time logistics
- Flexibility of our partners
- Support before the production stage and during the production.
This being said, the most important matter in this project was the development of innovative fire retardant composites (high fire resistance without or with lower amount of fillers) combining higher UV resistance, cheaper raw material cost and lower weight.
