POLYESTER RESINS
What is polyester resin?
Polyester resins are the most widely used in the composite industry, suitable for various applications where fiberglass acts as reinforcement and can be mixed with fillers. They are compatible with different manufacturing processes, including hand lay-up, spray-up, pultrusion, filament winding, infusion, and polymer concrete.
Types of Polyester Resins:
Orthophthalic Resins
- Most commonly used.
- Provide a cost-effective solution for standard requirements.
DCPD (Dicyclopentadiene) Resins
- Similar properties to orthophthalic resins.
- Lower monomer content, reducing styrene emissions during application.
Isophthalic Resins
- Offer improved chemical and water resistance.
Isophthalic/Neopentylglycol (NPG) Resins
- Designed for high chemical resistance and excellent water resistance.
- Commonly used in boat hulls and swimming pools.
Vinylester Resins
- Provide superior chemical resistance.
- Ideal for chemical tanks, containers, and boat hull infusion.
- Low shrinkage and high osmotic resistance.
